One of the most basic tenets of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although most people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. However you ignore it at your peril as it can make an average snap into something which is has tension and dynamism.

In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a setting full of photographic possibility.

Since there were only two of us braving the cold, damp, ugly conditions, it was almost like having a private lesson. Hector was very helpful in answering questions and making suggestions; also looking for different subjects and different ways to make those subjects interesting. Despite being cold, I was really glad I took the class. Also, Hector kept us informed ahead of time with the parking location. That helped.

I took this picture while walking through the Arboretum at night. The trees are illuminated from above with lamps simulating moon light. With a short time exposure the colors of leaves really popped. I like taking pictures at night using available light and time exposure techniques. The shadows also give the picture the contrast to the rich colors.

This was taken on one of our Caddo Lake Photo Workshops. We had seen one or two eagles, but this one was the calmest as we eased into the small area he had claimed. He remained calm as we drifted closer to the point where I decided we might flush him from his roost if we moved closer. We backed away quietly, still marveling at his beauty.

This blossom was on a small Magnolia tree sheltered from the wind and weather on Bald Head Island. When I spied this blossom the sun light was beginning to illuminate the petals. Time time spent waiting for the pictorial moment gave me time to more deeply appreciate the beauty of this transient blossom. Taken with a Nikon D850, tripod, 70-200 in close distance. The Oregon Zoo is a symphony of colors, a vibrant tapestry of life from every corner of the world. As I approached, camera in hand, the light was perfectly casting a glow on the water as the flamingos glided along. Among the flock, one particular bird stood out. It approached me with an equal curiosity as I. It captured me as I captured it. The result, I believe, speaks for itself. It's more than ju
